You write algebra or physics notes and want to rearrange an equation without leaving the editor.

Select F=m*a and solve for a. Pocket Symbolic Solver shows the result before you insert it as display math.

Solve for a symbol

Select an equation or type one in the modal. Solve for one symbol while leaving the others as parameters.

Two or more solutions

The preview lists multiple roots. Real numeric roots appear from smallest to largest.

Complex roots and families of solutions

The preview labels complex roots and supported solution families. For sin(x)=0, it explains that the family parameter is an integer.

Clear errors

An invalid equation or missing symbol produces an error. Insert stays off until a result is available.

Insert as display math

Insert replaces the selection with display math. With no selection, the result goes at the cursor.

A time limit for hard equations

The local worker stops a solve at the configured time limit. A later solve starts a new worker.

Set up Pocket Symbolic Solver

needs

Obsidian 1.13.4 or later

steps

Select an equation such as F=m*a in your note.
Run Solve an equation for a symbol.
Enter a as the symbol and select Solve.
Check the rendered solution, then select Insert or cancel the preview.

If the app can't find a new plugin yet, try again later. Obsidian says a plugin that passes the review shows in the app within 24 hours.

How to solve an equation and insert the result as math in Obsidian

Known limits of Pocket Symbolic Solver

The solver accepts nerdamer syntax, not LaTeX input, systems of equations or inequalities.
Equations longer than 500 characters are refused.
A solve that reaches the configured time limit stops with an error.
Phone, tablet, Windows and Linux use were not tested for this release.

Questions about Pocket Symbolic Solver

Does solving need an online account?

The solver runs locally in a bundled worker. Free solves need no account.

Can I paste LaTeX into the solver?

The solver expects nerdamer syntax. Use * for products and ^ for powers.

What happens when I cancel?

Cancel closes the modal without inserting math. Your note keeps its text.

Where does history live?

Solve history lives in the plugin data file. You can turn recording off or clear it in settings.

Network use

Before sign-in, requests stay off; sign-in sends the client ID and read:user scope to github.com and polls for a token. After sign-in, api.github.com receives authenticated sponsorship queries for tier and total payments; no note content, file names or vault data leaves. Successful checks last seven days, failures retry after six hours, and Refresh requests an earlier check.
