How to quote wiki links in Obsidian frontmatter

As of October 2026, Obsidian’s help says text and list properties need quotes around internal links. Fix simple raw values by hand or preview them with Frontmatter Link Repair.

Background

The repair targets raw text from hand-written notes, imports or templates. It does not parse and rewrite the entire YAML document.

2 ways to do it

  1. Quote a raw property link by hand

Open the note’s raw properties and surround a complete internal link with double quotes. Keep the link target unchanged.

    limits
Review ambiguous arrays or nested values separately; adding quotes around a damaged value does not reconstruct its original link.
  2. Frontmatter Link Repair from this site

Scan raw frontmatter for complete wiki links under selected top-level keys. Review the proposed quotes before applying checked changes with restore copies.

    limits
The preview displays up to 200 notes and Apply uses their checked matches.
The Atlas note shows quoted property links above its unchanged body.

Quote complete wiki links in selected raw frontmatter keys

  1. Back up your vault and run Preview the link repair.

  2. Enter a folder and the top-level keys, separated by commas.

  3. Select Preview and review the proposed lines and skipped parts.

  4. Clear unwanted checkboxes, then select Apply checked.

  5. Read the results and keep the restore-copy paths.

Common questions

Which keys should I select?

Enter the top-level keys that contain your intended links. The scanner leaves other keys and note-body links alone.

Why did Apply skip a note from my preview?

A note changed after the preview can trigger the stale check. Preview again before selecting its repairs.
