About Kanban Draft Vault
You write new cards in Kanban and want a saved copy when Escape or a click outside closes the form.
Kanban Draft Vault captures nonempty updates while you type in Kanban's new-card form. Open recovery to find the board path, captured lane label and text. Copy the draft, inspect the board, then paste it where you need it.
Capture and recovery are free. The companion targets Kanban 2.0.51 in the main window of the tested desktop setup.

Capture new-card text
Keep the latest nonempty text from each new-card editor session, including spaces and line breaks. Existing-card editors, lane titles and ordinary Markdown notes don't enter recovery.
Find drafts with their board context
Run Open draft recovery to see saved text with its board path, captured lane label and capture time. Separate editor sessions keep separate record IDs even when lanes share a title.
Copy complete text
Copy keeps the record in recovery. If clipboard access fails, the dialog selects the complete text in a read-only field so you can copy it yourself.
Dismiss a saved record
Dismiss removes one draft and its earlier versions from recovery. It doesn't remove a card from the board, so copy needed text before dismissing the record.
Keep saved text after reload
Saved drafts survive a normal plugin reload through local plugin data. Empty updates retain the last nonempty draft, so submitted cards can remain as copy-only records. A forced app stop can lose text that hasn't reached storage.
Capture, recovery, copying and dismissal are free; earlier versions, search and board retention controls need Pro.
Pro features
Pro costs $5 a month or $15 one time through GitHub Sponsors. One sponsorship turns on Pro in every plugin that has it.
Saved draft versions Pro
Keep earlier snapshots and copy the version you need. A typing burst at the end keeps one snapshot; a five-second pause or an internal edit starts another. Snapshots can contain partially typed words.
Search across boards Pro
Search saved drafts by board path, captured lane label or latest text. Matching ignores case and looks for a text fragment. Earlier versions aren't searched.
Retention limits by board Pro
Set draft count, age and earlier version limits for a captured board. Defaults are 100 drafts, 30 days and 10 earlier versions. Limits run on Apply and nonempty captures with Pro, and can remove stored text.
Set up Kanban Draft Vault
needs
- Obsidian 1.13.4 or later
- Install and enable Kanban separately; the integration targets version 2.0.51.
- Use the main window; popout window capture remains untested.
steps
Install and enable Kanban and Kanban Draft Vault.
Type a sentence in the new-card form of a small test board, then close the form.
Run Open draft recovery and check the saved board path and text.
Copy the draft, inspect the board for an existing card, then paste into your chosen destination.
Dismiss the saved record when you no longer need it.
If the app can't find a new plugin yet, try again later. Obsidian says a plugin that passes the review shows in the app within 24 hours.
Known limits of Kanban Draft Vault
- Capture targets the Kanban 2.0.51 new-card form in the main desktop window; other Kanban versions and popout windows remain untested.
- Existing-card edits, lane-title edits and ordinary Markdown notes do not enter draft recovery.
- Submitted cards can remain in recovery because empty updates retain the last nonempty text; inspect the board before pasting.
- Recovery copies text but does not insert a card or detect a successful submission.
- A forced app stop can lose text that has not reached storage; keep the app open after a save error.
- Board renames do not update old recovery paths, and captured lane labels can become stale after a rename.
- Draft text is not encrypted in the plugin data file, and backups or sync that includes that file can carry it.
- Pro search checks the latest text and context, without searching earlier versions.
- Pro retention limits can remove stored text when applied or during capture; they do not run on a background expiry timer.
- Physical mobile capture, forced termination, multi-device sync and live OAuth or paid sponsorship were not tested.

Questions about Kanban Draft Vault
Does recovery add a card to Kanban?
No, recovery only offers text to copy. Inspect the board before pasting because a submitted card can also remain in recovery.
Is local draft storage encrypted?
No, draft text, paths, labels and limits are stored in the plugin's data.json. Backups or sync that includes plugin data can carry that file.
What should I do if a draft save fails?
Keep the app open and copy the text you need from recovery. Select Retry save to try the local write again. A forced stop can lose unsaved text.
Do board renames update saved drafts?
A file rename doesn't rewrite the old board path in recovery. A captured lane label can also become stale after a lane rename.
Network use
Only GitHub sign-in and sponsorship checks contact github.com and api.github.com, after you select Sign in with GitHub. Sign-in sends a public client ID, scope and device code; sponsorship queries send your token and request your tier and total payment. Checks run after sign-in, on Refresh or cache expiry, without note text, file names or other vault data.
