About Steady Inline Math

You edit short inline equations in Live Preview and encounter spaces beside their dollar signs.

Put your caret inside an inline equation in a plain paragraph. The plugin adds hidden temporary braces so spaces stay inside the active equation.

Free features

Temporary braces in the active equation

The guard inserts empty braces just inside the dollar signs of a single-line equation. Spaces you type sit between those braces.

Hide owned braces

The editor hides only characters tracked as belonging to this plugin. Braces you wrote remain part of the equation.

Cleanup and Undo

Moving the caret outside removes tracked braces and keeps your typed spaces. Guard maintenance adds no separate Undo event.

Skip uncertain contexts

The guard skips code, display math, tables, headings, lists and callouts. Multiple selections and active text composition suspend its changes.

Toggle the guard

Use Toggle inline math guard or the Enable guard setting. The switch stays saved for your next session.

Pro features

Pro costs $5 a month or $15 one time through GitHub Sponsors. One sponsorship turns on Pro in every plugin that has it.

Saved folder rules Pro

Save case-sensitive folder rules with a plus or minus prefix. The most specific matching path wins, while the global switch can disable the guard.

Equation panel Pro

Open a side panel listing eligible equations and source line numbers from your current editor note. It shows source rather than a separate rendered preview.

How to edit spaces in Obsidian inline math

Known limits of Steady Inline Math

  • The guard runs only in Live Preview plain paragraphs with one caret.
  • Cleanup keeps boundary spaces, which may affect final math rendering.
  • A crash can leave temporary braces that need manual review.
  • Physical phone and tablet keyboards were not tested.

Questions about Steady Inline Math

Does the guard change saved source?

Obsidian can save temporary braces while the equation is active. Another tool reading the file can see them before cleanup.

Does cleanup fix the final spacing?

Cleanup keeps the space you typed. That boundary space may still affect math parsing after you leave the equation.

Can it recover braces after a crash?

A crash can leave braces in your note. A later session can't prove ownership, so you need to review and remove them yourself.

Network use

Before you select Sign in with GitHub, the plugin makes no network requests. Sign-in sends its client ID, the read:user scope and device-flow data to github.com, then sends an authenticated sponsorship query to api.github.com. Checks reuse success for 7 days, retry failures after 6 hours or run on Refresh; they send no vault data.
