About Bases View Checkpoints

You use Bases for different tasks and want to return to a saved view setup.

Bases View Checkpoints saves a named view from your Base file before you change it. Restore brings back that view and its shared definitions. Check the preview first, because shared filters and formulas can affect other views.

The free version keeps one checkpoint per view and can undo the last restore. Pro adds named checkpoints and a separate comparison command.

Free features

Save a view checkpoint

Choose a Base file and one named view to save its setup. The checkpoint includes shared filters, formulas, properties and summaries. Saving again replaces the free checkpoint for that view.

The file picker shows a sample Base ready for selection.

Restore a view checkpoint

Review the changed keys before confirming a restore. Other view entries keep their current values, but shared definitions return to their saved values. A file change after the preview stops the restore.

Undo a restore

Undo last checkpoint restore brings back the full file text from before the restore. It refuses if the file has changed since then.

The free version keeps one checkpoint per view, replacing it when you save again.

Pro features

Pro costs $5 a month or $15 one time through GitHub Sponsors. One sponsorship turns on Pro in every plugin that has it.

Several named checkpoints Pro

Save named checkpoint keeps several setups for one view. Reusing a name replaces that checkpoint. Named checkpoints remain saved after sign-out, but restoring them needs Pro.

The name prompt holds Weekly review for a sample checkpoint.

Compare with the current view Pro

Compare checkpoint with current view lists changed view keys and shared keys. The comparison writes nothing.

The comparison lists the Alpha sort and formulas as changed keys.

How to restore an Obsidian Bases view setup

Known limits of Bases View Checkpoints

  • Restoring shared filters, formulas, properties or summaries can change results in other views.
  • Restoring replaced YAML entries can change their comments and spacing.
  • Save and restore refuse invalid YAML or duplicate view names.
  • Saving refuses non-finite YAML numbers, and restoring refuses anchor or alias changes that would affect other views.
  • A file change after the preview stops the restore, and a later edit stops undo.
  • Shared keys absent from a checkpoint are removed during restore.
  • Restore does not force an open Base to reload; reopen it if the display has not updated.
  • Mobile devices, Sync conflicts and very large vaults were not tested in the product lane.

Questions about Bases View Checkpoints

Does restoring one view affect the others?

Other view entries keep their values. Shared filters, formulas, properties and summaries return to their saved values and can change what those views show.

Does a checkpoint preserve YAML comments?

It saves values rather than the original entry text. Restoring replaced entries can change their comments and spacing.

What if I delete the saved view?

Restore appends the saved view to the views list. Invalid YAML and duplicate view names stop a restore.

Why does my open Base still look unchanged?

The plugin writes the Base file rather than forcing an open view to reload. Reopen the Base if its display has not updated.

Network use

After you select Sign in with GitHub, github.com receives the public client id, read:user scope and device-flow polling values. api.github.com receives your token and a query for your sponsorship tier and total payment, without note text or file paths. Successful checks last seven days, failures can retry after six hours, and Refresh requests an earlier check.
