About Tag Properties

You keep topics, companies or other lists in their own property and not in the built-in tags property.

Choose a list property in the settings, then open the custom tag view. Each value becomes a button with a count of distinct notes. Select a tag to see the matching notes or copy the selection as a Bases filter.

Free features

Browse a custom list as tags

Each valid value of the chosen list property becomes a button with a count of distinct notes. research, Research and #research share one count. The Current note section offers the tags of your active note.

Include child tags when you need them

A selection matches the exact tag by default. Turn on Include child tags to add work/review to work, but not workshop. Type in Find a tag to narrow the buttons.

The result list includes notes tagged research and research/interviews.

Reuse the selection in Bases

Copy bases filter gives a native expression for the advanced filter editor of a base. It handles hash prefixes, letter case and child tags like the plugin view. The plugin does not write to the base file.

A native Bases table is filtered by the custom topics list.

The free version reads one custom list property, with no limit on notes or tags.

Pro features

Pro costs $5 a month or $15 one time through GitHub Sponsors. One sponsorship turns on Pro in every plugin that has it.

Combine properties Pro

Pro adds multiple tag properties and a combined view of custom and core tags. A note that uses one tag in several properties counts once. If Pro turns off, the first property keeps working and your settings stay saved.

The settings show the property list and the optional GitHub Sponsors Pro controls.

Questions about Tag Properties

Does this add a new property type to Obsidian?

No. It adds a separate tag view through public APIs. The core tag pane, search index and graph do not change.

Why does a value in my property not show as a tag?

The property must be of type List. Numeric-only values, values with spaces, links and blank items are skipped. Quote a value that starts with a hash in YAML, because an unquoted hash starts a comment.

Can I rename a tag across my vault?

No. This version only reads your properties. Edit values in the normal Properties editor.

Network use

Until you select Sign in with GitHub, Tag Properties makes no network requests. Sign in and the sponsorship check contact github.com and api.github.com with the scope read:user, and a successful check is reused for 7 days. The plugin sends no note content, file names or other vault data.
